Paris, 11th Feb. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his opening address at the AI Action Summit in Paris, highlighted the transformative power of AI while stressing the need for global governance, ethical innovation, and equitable access.
Co-chairing the summit with French President Emmanuel Macron, Modi underscored AI’s role in reshaping economy, security, and society, calling for collective global efforts to mitigate risks, address biases, and ensure responsible AI development.
He emphasized that AI should not deepen inequalities, especially in the Global South, advocating for open-source systems, unbiased datasets, and democratized AI technology. Addressing AI-driven job disruptions, he called for skilling and re-skilling initiatives.
Highlighting India’s leadership in Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and AI governance, Modi said India’s National AI Mission promotes responsible AI and public-private partnerships for computing resources. He also reaffirmed India’s commitment to sustainable AI, leveraging green energy and efficient AI models.
Reiterating AI’s potential for public good in health, education, and governance, Modi urged global collaboration to harness AI for progress, not peril.
