New Delhi, 11th Feb. President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the International Conference on Innovation in Unani Medicine for Integrative Health Solutions in New Delhi on Unani Day.
Addressing the event, the President honored the contributions of Hakim Ajmal Khan, in whose memory Unani Day has been observed since 2016. She highlighted his role in promoting Unani medicine in India and fostering innovation within the traditional system.
President Murmu emphasized India’s leadership in education, research, healthcare, and pharmaceutical production in the Unani system. She commended researchers and practitioners for integrating modern technology and scientific methods, expressing confidence that discussions on evidence-based research and the role of artificial intelligence in traditional medicine would enrich the field.
She further noted India’s holistic healthcare approach, citing the National Health Policy 2017, which aims to mainstream AYUSH systems, including Unani medicine. She acknowledged the efforts of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine in advancing Unani education and research, with MD and PhD programs now available in Unani medical colleges.
The President expressed optimism that the next generation of Unani practitioners would continue to strengthen India’s rich heritage in traditional medicine.
