Jaipur, 11th Feb. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a show cause notice to Rajasthan Cabinet Minister Kirodi Lal Meena for allegedly tarnishing the state government’s image by publicly claiming that his phone was being tapped. The notice was sent by Rajasthan BJP president Madan Rathore, following backlash from the opposition Congress.

Meena’s statement, made at a public meeting, stirred controversy in the Rajasthan Assembly, with Congress demanding Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma’s resignation. Leader of the Opposition Tika Ram Jully refused to deliver his speech on the Governor’s address in protest, while Congress MLAs raised slogans, escalating tensions in the House.

In the notice, the BJP accused Meena of damaging the government’s reputation by making false claims. “You are a member of the BJP and an MLA from Sawai Madhopur. Your public statement about phone tapping is untrue and has tarnished the image of the government,” the notice stated. The party has directed Meena to submit a written response within three days.

Responding to media queries, Kirodi Lal Meena said he was unaware of the notice but reaffirmed his commitment to the party. “I am a disciplined soldier of the BJP. Once I receive the notice, I will respond within the given timeframe,” he said.

The controversy follows Meena’s earlier resignation drama. In June 2024, he reportedly sent his resignation to the Chief Minister, but it was not accepted. While he continued handling departmental work, he refrained from attending cabinet meetings. The BJP has consistently maintained that Meena remains a senior leader working within the government.
