Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Parvesh Verma on Sunday celebrated his party’s remarkable victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, calling February 8 a day that will be “written in golden letters” in the history of the national capital. Verma, who won a resounding victory over former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi seat, said the people of Delhi had been eagerly awaiting a “good government” and that the BJP would deliver governance with honesty and dedication.

“This is not just my victory; this is Delhi’s victory. The entire city was waiting for a good government to come to power. Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the BJP government in the country has been working for the people, and now, in Delhi, we will carry out all tasks with honesty and utmost determination,” Verma told a gathering in his native village, Mundka.

Verma, who was addressing the public after his victory, noted that the BJP’s win, especially in outer Delhi, was reminiscent of the party’s 1993 triumph. “February 8 will be written in golden letters in the history of Delhi,” he added, reflecting on the party’s return to power after 27 years.

In a stunning performance, the BJP secured 48 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly, securing a two-thirds majority. This decisive win came at the expense of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which saw a sharp reduction in its numbers, and the Congress, which failed to win a single seat for the third consecutive time.

Verma also spoke about his personal journey and dedication to the city’s development. He emphasized that BJP MLAs would dedicate 20 to 22 hours of their day to ensuring the growth of Delhi, addressing both development needs and challenges. “We have a lot of work to do, especially in the areas of Delhi Dehaat, which have long been neglected. From now on, our role is to work tirelessly, with the blessings of PM Modi, to implement all of his schemes in Delhi,” he said.

Verma, who emerged as a giant-killer in the election, defeating Arvind Kejriwal by more than 4,000 votes, also paid tribute to his father, former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma. At the Dr. Sahib Singh Verma Samadhi Sthal in Mundka, he expressed his resolve to carry forward his father’s “unfinished works.” “My father’s life is an inspiration for me, and his unfinished works are now my resolves. The people of Delhi have blessed us, and all the MLAs of Delhi will work to beautify Delhi in line with PM Modi’s vision,” Verma added.

The BJP’s historic victory also marked a major blow to the AAP, with several key leaders, including Kejriwal, losing in their strongholds. AAP Chief Minister Atishi, however, managed to retain her seat. The Congress, which had ruled Delhi for 15 years until 1998, continued its downward spiral, failing to secure a single seat in the assembly.

The election results came after a tense campaign and voting on February 5, with the final vote count taking place on February 8. The BJP’s victory in Delhi follows a string of successes for the party, including their dominance in Maharashtra and Haryana.

As the BJP prepares to take over governance in Delhi, the city’s voters are hopeful that the new government will bring about much-needed development, while BJP leaders like Verma remain committed to delivering on their promises of progress and integrity.
