Prayagraj, 29th Jan. Prayagraj witnessed a massive spiritual gathering as over 57.1 million devotees took a holy dip at Triveni Sangam on the auspicious occasion of Mauni Amavasya, according to an official statement from the Uttar Pradesh Information Department.
The ongoing Magh Mela has seen an overwhelming turnout, with total footfall surpassing 199.4 million. The number of Kalpwasis, who observe month-long austerities, has exceeded 1 million, adding to the religious fervor.
Stampede-Like Situation Reported
The immense rush at key bathing ghats briefly led to a stampede-like situation, prompting heavy security deployment. Following the incident, police are managing the crowd and facilitating the arrival of Akharas and saints for their Amrit Snan.
Earlier in the day, Digambar Naga Baba Chidanand Puri of Panchayati Niranjani Akhara stated that due to the morning’s unexpected events, their Shobha Yatra could not take place. Instead, Akhara members are now taking the holy dip in smaller groups.
Upcoming Key Bathing Dates
The Uttar Pradesh government reported that by 10 AM on Wednesday, 36.1 million devotees had already performed the ritual bath. Other significant bathing dates for Mahakumbh 2025 include:
February 3 – Basant Panchami
February 12 – Maghi Purnima
February 26 – Maha Shivaratri
