New Delhi 27th Jan. A horrifying discovery of a burnt body in a suitcase in East Delhi’s Ghazipur has unearthed a chilling case of murder involving a live-in relationship gone wrong.

Police were alerted early Sunday about a suitcase abandoned in a deserted area. Upon investigation, they found a completely charred body inside. A case of murder and destruction of evidence was immediately registered, and multiple teams began working on the case.

Abhishek Dhania, Deputy Commissioner of Police for East Delhi, explained the initial challenges: “We had no leads, just a burnt suitcase and body. Our investigation started with scanning CCTV footage from the area.”

The breakthrough came when officers identified a suspicious Hyundai Verna seen near the location. Tracing its registration led to Amit Tiwari, 22, a cab driver living in Ghaziabad. His accomplice, Anuj Kumar, a welding mechanic, was also apprehended.

During questioning, Amit confessed the victim was his 22-year-old cousin, Shilpa Pandey, with whom he had been in a live-in relationship for a year. Shilpa had been pressuring Amit to marry her, leading to frequent disputes. On Saturday night, during an argument fueled by alcohol, Amit strangled Shilpa in a fit of rage.

Amit then sought help from Anuj to dispose of the body. According to police, the duo packed Shilpa’s body into a suitcase and initially planned to dump it in western Uttar Pradesh. However, after crossing two checkpoints, they abandoned the plan and decided on a nearby location. They purchased diesel worth ₹160, set the suitcase ablaze in a deserted spot in Ghazipur, and fled the scene.

Police arrested Amit in Greater Noida and identified Shilpa’s parents, who live and work in Surat, Gujarat.
