New Delhi, 15th Jan. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday alleged that the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections will reveal the behind-the-scenes “jugalbandi” or alliance between the Congress and the BJP. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kejriwal took a jab at the BJP’s reaction to his remarks about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, suggesting that the response indicates the close ties between the two political parties.

“I spoke just one line about Rahul Gandhi, and look how much trouble the BJP is facing. This election will expose the jugalbandi between the Congress and BJP that has been going on for years,” Kejriwal stated.

The AAP supremo was responding to a post by BJP IT department head Amit Malviya, who had commented on Kejriwal’s rebuttal to Gandhi’s attack on him. Malviya’s post on X read, “Worry about the country later, save the New Delhi seat for now.” Kejriwal, who has held the New Delhi seat since 2013, is up against BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit in the upcoming election.

In another post, Kejriwal emphasized that AAP is fighting against a “rotten” political system, stating, “The BJP and Congress are parts of the same rotten system.” His remarks come amidst growing tensions between the AAP and Congress, both part of the INDIA alliance, following their failure to form a pre-poll alliance for Haryana Assembly elections last year.

Kejriwal’s comments follow a speech by Gandhi at an election rally in Seelampur, where he accused both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kejriwal of neglecting issues related to the caste census. Gandhi also criticized Kejriwal for adhering to Modi’s “strategy of propaganda and false promises,” citing issues like rising pollution, corruption, and inflation in Delhi.

Responding, Kejriwal defended his stance, claiming that Gandhi was more focused on safeguarding his party’s interests while Kejriwal was fighting for the nation’s welfare. The AAP and Congress had contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Delhi together, but both are now independently vying for power in the February 5 Assembly elections.
