Arvind Kejriwal is Kingpin of ₹2,026 Crore Liquor Scam: Anurag Thaku

GG News Bureau
New Delhi, 12th Jan.
Former Union Minister and MP from Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, Anurag Singh Thakur, launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) during a press conference at the BJP headquarters. Citing the findings of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report, Thakur alleged a ₹2,026 crore revenue loss in Delhi due to a liquor scam and held Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal responsible, referring to him as the “kingpin” of the scandal.

Thakur revealed ten key points from the CAG report, accusing the Kejriwal-led government of corruption and mismanagement in the implementation of its excise policy. He slammed AAP for failing to table the report in the Delhi Assembly and questioned Kejriwal’s intent, stating, “Kejriwal promised schools but delivered liquor vends instead.”

Allegations of Mismanagement and Revenue Loss

Thakur outlined the CAG findings, highlighting:

  1. A revenue loss of ₹2,026 crore to Delhi.
  2. Deviation from policy objectives.
  3. Ignoring recommendations of an expert panel.
  4. Allowing ineligible institutions to bid despite complaints.
  5. Overlooking financial standing of bidders.
  6. Licensing violations.
  7. No penalties for breaches.
  8. Lack of transparency in pricing.
  9. No approval from the Cabinet or Lieutenant Governor on crucial decisions.
  10. Failure to present excise rules in the Assembly for approval.

Thakur asserted that these lapses directly benefited certain individuals, demanding accountability from Kejriwal. He accused the AAP government of prioritizing personal gain over public welfare during the pandemic, alleging that the groundwork for the scam was laid during a time when Delhiites were struggling with oxygen shortages.

AAP’s Leadership Under Fire

Thakur alleged that AAP’s governance has been marred by corruption, pointing to the arrest of eight ministers, 15 MLAs, and one MP under the party’s rule. Referring to Kejriwal’s earlier claims of honesty and simplicity, Thakur remarked, “The man who once rejected big houses and security now resides in a sprawling glass palace and enjoys extensive privileges.”

The BJP leader also criticized Atishi Marlena, asserting that she lacks authority as the Deputy Chief Minister and is merely a figurehead for Kejriwal’s decisions. He further stated that AAP lacks a credible and honest face for the upcoming elections.

Demand for Accountability

Thakur demanded answers from Kejriwal on the following:

  • Why the CAG report was not tabled in the Assembly.
  • Why critical decisions were made without Cabinet or LG approval.
  • Who benefited from the ₹2,026 crore revenue loss.

He concluded by urging voters to hold AAP accountable for its alleged corruption and failures in governance. “The sins of AAP must not go unpunished, and Kejriwal must answer to the people of Delhi,” he asserted.

The BJP is expected to use this issue as a major talking point in the forthcoming elections, projecting the CAG report as evidence of AAP’s misrule and alleged malpractices.
