India Inspires Renewed Optimism Globally: Minister Shekhawat at Pravasi Bharatiya Divas

Bhubaneswar, 10th Jan. Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, emphasized the crucial role of the Indian diaspora in shaping global perceptions of India during the plenary session of the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention on Friday. The event, themed “Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat,” provided a platform for meaningful dialogues on culture, connection, and belongingness.

Speaking at the session titled ‘Diaspora Dialogues: Stories of Culture, Connection, and Belongingness,’ Shekhawat highlighted the global admiration for India’s resilience and cultural influence. “The world looks at India with a renewed sense of optimism,” he said, adding that the strength of a nation lies in its ability to maintain connections with its people worldwide.

Shekhawat praised the diaspora’s significant contributions across diverse sectors, noting their role in advancing quantum computing and climate solutions in Europe, and generating over 100,000 jobs through Indian-owned businesses in the UK.

India’s Growing Soft Power
Highlighting India’s cultural influence, Shekhawat said, “Our soft power, rooted in yoga, ayurveda, cuisine, and art, has garnered global admiration.” He reflected on iconic celebrations such as Diwali at Times Square and Holi at Trafalgar Square as evidence of India’s cultural resonance worldwide.

Invitation to Mahakumbh 2025
The minister extended an invitation to the Indian diaspora for the Mahakumbh festival in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, from January 13 to February 26, 2025, calling it one of India’s largest spiritual celebrations.

The three-day PBD Convention, held in collaboration with the Odisha Government from January 8 to 10, drew members of the Indian diaspora from over 50 countries. It served as a platform to strengthen ties between India and its global community while showcasing their invaluable contributions to the nation’s progress.

Global Engagement for a Viksit Bharat
The convention underscored India’s aspiration for a developed nation by 2047, encouraging the diaspora’s active involvement in this mission. Shekhawat’s address highlighted the enduring bond between India and its diaspora, asserting that their achievements are instrumental in shaping a prosperous and interconnected future.
