Mumbai, 26th Dec. Actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha has come forward to defend his daughter, actress Sonakshi Sinha, amid recent remarks and controversies involving her and public figures. The issue began when actor Mukesh Khanna criticized Sonakshi’s response to a question about the Ramayana on the popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati. In a statement, Khanna expressed his disapproval of her lack of knowledge about the ancient text. Sonakshi, in turn, responded strongly, slamming the comment.
Khanna later expressed regret over his remarks, acknowledging his mistake and promising to be more careful with his statements in the future. However, the matter took a new turn when poet Kumar Vishwas made a cryptic remark about Sonakshi’s interfaith marriage with Zaheer Iqbal during a poetry event in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.
Vishwas suggested that Sonakshi should teach her children about the Ramayana and Geeta, and warned that someone could “take away the ‘Shree Lakshmi’ of her household” if she did not. His comment was interpreted as a subtle reference to her marriage to Zaheer, who is from a different faith.
Politicians Surendra Rajput and Supriya Shrinate took to social media to criticize Vishwas for his remarks, expressing their support for Sonakshi and condemning the cryptic comment.
In a tweet addressing the controversy, Shatrughan Sinha shared details of the situation, expressing his unwavering support for Sonakshi. He wrote, “For your perusal, understanding & appreciation forwarding here a recent episode of statements, actions & counter-reactions by/on the apple of our eye #SonakshiSinha, who always has my full support, love & blessings.” Sinha commended his daughter’s measured response, saying it had been “wisely, timely & very well” handled, and was “highly appreciated & applauded” by several prominent personalities, including Rajput and Shrinate.
Sinha concluded by stating, “Now, that the gentleman #MukeshKhanna has also replied/ responded, the matter is closed from Sonakshi & our side. Do we need to say anything more? Sharing the various views for your information & understanding. Jai Hind!”
Sonakshi and Zaheer Iqbal tied the knot in a registered ceremony on June 23, 2024, at their residence in Mumbai.
