New Delhi, 18th Dec. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla hosted a bilateral meeting with Armenian National Assembly President Alen Simonyan and his delegation at the Parliament House Complex on Tuesday. The discussions centered around enhancing trade, investment, and parliamentary cooperation between the two nations.

Welcoming the delegation, Shri Birla reminisced about his earlier meeting with Simonyan at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva. He emphasized the deepening political and parliamentary ties, highlighting how India’s stable government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and its focus on ease of doing business and infrastructure development have made it a hub of global investment opportunities.

Birla also called for continued collaboration on multilateral platforms and regular discussions on regional and global issues to strengthen bilateral relations. He noted the cultural and historical connections between India and Armenia and expressed hope that these ties would foster stronger people-to-people relationships.

Underscoring India as the “Mother of Democracy,” Birla emphasized the importance of reinforcing democratic principles through parliamentary cooperation. He highlighted India’s celebration of the 75th anniversary of its Constitution this year, marked by special discussions in Parliament.

The Speaker also shared India’s strides in gender equality, citing the passage of the “Nari Shakti Vandan Act” as a testament to women-led development. Additionally, he showcased India’s advances in digital democracy, including the “Digital Parliament” initiative, which enhances citizen participation in governance.

The Armenian delegation, on a five-day visit to India, reciprocated the sentiments, acknowledging the opportunities for collaboration and partnership in trade, governance, and democracy.
