New Delhi, 10th Dec. The nation mourns the passing of veteran politician and former Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna, who breathed his last on Tuesday at his residence due to a prolonged illness. The 92-year-old statesman is survived by his wife Prema and two daughters.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed profound grief, describing Krishna as a “remarkable leader” known for his tireless dedication to public service. Recalling his focus on infrastructure development during his tenure as Karnataka’s Chief Minister, Modi stated, “He will always be remembered as a prolific reader and thinker.”
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge hailed Krishna as a “true champion of development” who left an indelible mark on the state and nation. Kharge also noted the personal loss he felt, having worked closely with Krishna at both state and national levels.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman paid tributes, recalling his invaluable contributions as Chief Minister and Union External Affairs Minister. “His legacy of statesmanship and public service will endure,” said Sitharaman.
Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and BJP stalwart B S Yediyurappa joined in offering their condolences, lauding Krishna’s visionary leadership and transformative impact on Karnataka, especially in establishing Bengaluru as an IT hub.
JDS leader H D Kumaraswamy and Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao also shared heartfelt tributes, with Rao referring to Krishna as “a true visionary and architect of modern Bengaluru.”
A political stalwart, Krishna’s illustrious career spanned decades, including roles as Union Minister, Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly, and Governor of Maharashtra. Known for his dynamic leadership, he will be remembered as a guiding force for the state’s progress and a mentor to many.
The loss of S M Krishna leaves a void in Indian politics, with leaders across parties expressing their admiration for his statesmanship, intellect, and unwavering dedication to public service.
