Hague, 8th Dec. An explosion in a residential building in The Hague, Netherlands, has resulted in the deaths of five people, with fears that the death toll may rise. Authorities believe more individuals could be trapped under the rubble. The explosion occurred around 6 a.m. local time on Saturday, followed by a fire that engulfed the building.
Dutch investigative agencies have reported that five apartments were affected by the explosion and subsequent fire. The police have appealed to the public for any information regarding the incident. There are reports suggesting a car passed rapidly by the area just after the explosion, raising concerns that the vehicle could be linked to the blast.
The mayor of The Hague has indicated that people might be trapped in the debris, and given the severity of the situation, the chances of survival are low. Rescue teams, including search dogs, are on-site attempting to locate any survivors. Due to the extensive damage caused by the fire, the building has become structurally unstable, and authorities have evacuated an additional 40 apartments for safety reasons.
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has expressed his condolences and assured that all possible assistance will be provided to those affected. The King and Queen of the Netherlands have also conveyed their sorrow over the tragic event.
