New Delhi, 7th Dec. Sam Pitroda, Chairperson of the Indian Overseas Congress, revealed on Saturday that his server, smartphone, and laptop had been repeatedly hacked, with hackers demanding tens of thousands of dollars in cryptocurrency. Pitroda disclosed the information in an email to ANI, emphasizing the gravity of the cyber breach.

“The hackers have issued threats, demanding payment in cryptocurrency. They have warned of launching a smear and misinformation campaign to tarnish my reputation if the ransom is not paid,” Pitroda stated.

The hackers allegedly threatened to contact individuals in his network as part of their campaign. In response, Pitroda urged everyone to exercise caution, advising against clicking on unknown links or downloading suspicious attachments, as they may contain malware capable of compromising devices.

“If you receive emails or messages appearing to be about me from unknown sources, do not open them. Just delete them,” Pitroda warned.

Currently traveling, Pitroda plans to take immediate remedial action upon returning to Chicago. This includes replacing outdated hardware, upgrading software, and implementing enhanced cybersecurity measures.

“I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or concern this situation may cause,” he added.
