Bhubaneswar, 6th Dec. President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the new Judicial Court Complex in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on Thursday. The newly constructed facility aims to modernize the judicial system in the region and streamline the delivery of justice.
In her address at the event, the President emphasized the importance of timely justice, stating that delays in the judicial process are as detrimental as the denial of justice itself. “The poor suffer the most due to the culture of adjournments, as they lack the resources to repeatedly attend court proceedings,” she noted, urging all stakeholders to prioritize efforts to reduce adjournments in the interest of the common people.
She also highlighted the issue of language barriers in the judicial process, acknowledging that many common people find it difficult to understand legal proceedings. “I am pleased to note that judgments are now being translated into Odia and Santhali, making them more accessible to the public. These translated judgments are available on the Supreme Court and Orissa High Court websites,” she added.
The President also spoke about the ongoing push for women-led development, particularly in the judiciary. “Odisha Judicial Service currently has 48 percent female officers, and I am confident that this number will continue to rise,” she said, emphasizing the importance of increasing women’s participation in the judicial system.
Addressing concerns regarding public access to the judicial system, the President noted that creating a sensitive and supportive court environment is crucial for citizens to freely express themselves without fear. “It is important for citizens to feel comfortable when interacting with lawyers and judges,” she stated.
The President concluded by expressing her satisfaction with the new court complex, which is equipped with modern technologies and amenities to facilitate the swift administration of justice. “The design of this court complex is intended to meet both current and future needs, ensuring the smooth functioning of the judicial system,” she said.
The new judicial complex is expected to play a key role in improving the efficiency and accessibility of the legal system in Odisha.
