New Delhi, 5th Dec. Outgoing Delhi Assembly Speaker and AAP MLA from Shahdara, Ram Niwas Goel, announced his decision to quit electoral politics, citing his advanced age. The 76-year-old leader, who has served as Speaker since 2015 and is a two-time MLA from Shahdara, made the announcement ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 2025.

In a heartfelt letter to AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Goel expressed gratitude for the respect he received during his tenure as Speaker and MLA. He stated, “Due to age, I want to separate myself from electoral politics. I want to assure you I will continue serving the party in any capacity and fulfill any responsibilities assigned to me.”

Kejriwal acknowledged Goel’s significant contribution to the party, stating, “His guidance has steered the party in the right direction for many years. While he has chosen to step back from electoral politics, we respect his decision. He will remain a guardian of the AAP family.”

Goel’s departure marks the end of an era for AAP in Delhi, as he has been a key figure in the party’s rise in the state. Despite stepping down from active electoral politics, Goel’s commitment to the party remains strong.
