Kolkata commuters can now purchase tickets for state-run buses through the Yatri Sathi mobile app, Transport Minister Snehasis Chakraborty announced. The service, initially available on 12 routes connecting the airport, will expand to other routes in phases.

“The introduction of digital ticketing through Yatri Sathi is a game-changer for public transport in Kolkata,” said Chakraborty.

Users can select their route on the app, pay via UPI, and receive a QR-coded ticket, which conductors will verify using handheld devices.

This initiative is part of the city’s shift toward smart mobility, simplifying payments, enhancing commuter convenience, and promoting digital adoption. Transport Secretary Saumitra Mohan noted that Kolkata now joins the ranks of select Indian cities leveraging technology to improve public transport efficiency.

Developed by West Bengal’s IT & ITeS department, Yatri Sathi also offers ride-hailing services with over 70,000 taxi drivers and digital ticketing for attractions like the Alipore Zoo. The app is expected to play a pivotal role in Kolkata’s transformation into a smart city.
