IRS Officer Trainees Call on President Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan

New Delhi, 2nd Dec. Officer trainees of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Indirect Taxes) met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday.
Addressing the trainees, President Murmu highlighted the critical role of the IRS in connecting the economy through a uniform tax system and fostering uniformity in tax administration. She described IRS officers as vital links between the government, businesses, and state tax administrations.
The President emphasized that in a rapidly evolving global socio-economic landscape, national interests are increasingly shaped by international economic cooperation. She referred to IRS officers as “guardians of the country’s economic boundaries” and underscored their importance in trade facilitation agreements.
Highlighting the broader role of the IRS, President Murmu said the service enables resource utilization for infrastructure development, socio-economic programs, education, and healthcare. She stressed the need for transparent systems and processes to ensure accountability in tax administration.
The President urged the officers to embrace technology to make tax collection less intrusive and more efficient. She emphasized that taxation is not merely a revenue-generating mechanism but also a tool for social, economic, and political development.
She concluded by encouraging the young officers to approach their responsibilities with dedication and innovation, underlining their role in nation-building through fair and effective tax administration.
