New Delhi, 29th Nov. The Congress party on Friday alleged that the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has shown undue favoritism towards the Adani Group in its solar energy contracts.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh claimed that Adani Green Energy has yet to supply a single unit of the contracted 3 gigawatts (GW) of electricity to Andhra Pradesh, despite being months behind schedule.
In a post on X, Ramesh stated, “It is amazing that even though it has yet to supply a single unit of the contracted 3 GW of electricity to Andhra Pradesh—despite the alleged ₹1,400 crore bribe to secure the contract—Adani Green is not suffering one bit, thanks to the Central Government.”
Ramesh further alleged that Adani Green Energy is being allowed by SECI to sell the unutilized power on exchanges at 40% higher rates, leading to profits for the company while Andhra Pradesh remains deprived of electricity.
The allegations come in the wake of charges filed by the US Department of Justice, which accused Gautam Adani, along with key associates, of paying USD 265 million in bribes to Indian officials to secure lucrative solar energy contracts expected to generate USD 2 billion in profits over 20 years.
Ramesh pointed out that while Adani is expected to begin supplying one-third of the promised electricity to Andhra Pradesh seven months late, the interim permissions granted by SECI have benefitted the company.
Adani Group has denied the allegations, calling them “baseless.” Meanwhile, Congress has demanded a probe into the alleged favoritism and its impact on energy distribution in Andhra Pradesh.
The matter highlights growing concerns over transparency in awarding government contracts and the role of major corporations in public infrastructure projects.
