Four Women Killed, 16 Injured in Gujarat Van-Truck Collision

 Four women were killed and 16 others injured after a pickup van collided with a truck in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district, police said on Tuesday.

The tragic incident occurred near Chotila around 10:30 pm on Monday when the van, carrying 20 passengers, was traveling from Shiyani village in Limbdi taluka to Somnath. According to inspector I.B. Valvi of the local police station, two women died at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

The collision took place when the truck, traveling in the opposite direction, suddenly turned right to stop at a roadside hotel, causing the van to crash into it.

The victims, who were all related, were on their way to Somnath to perform “pitru tarpan,” a ritual to honor deceased ancestors. The injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at the Rajkot Civil Hospital.

The deceased women have been identified as Magjiben Rethariya (72), Galalben Rethariya (60), Manjuben Rethariya (65), and Gauriben Rethariya (68).

The police are investigating the incident further.
