Aurangabad, Maharashtra, 23rd November. The counting of votes for six assembly seats in the Aurangabad Lok Sabha constituency in Maharashtra is currently underway. The polling for these seats—Kannad, Phulambri, Aurangabad Central, Aurangabad West, Aurangabad East, Gangapur, and Vaijapur—was held on November 20. Results for all six constituencies, along with 288 Maharashtra Assembly seats and 81 Jharkhand Assembly seats, will be announced today.

In early trends, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance has crossed the majority mark, with a commanding lead in over 220 seats. Celebrations have already begun at BJP’s Mumbai office, with plans underway for a Maharashtra Legislative Party meeting on November 25 and an oath-taking ceremony on November 26.

Aurangabad Central: Key Battleground

Aurangabad Central, a pivotal constituency currently represented by Shiv Sena’s Jaiswal Pradeep Shivnarayan, witnessed a competitive battle among 24 candidates. Early trends show Shiv Sena’s Jaiswal Pradeep leading with a margin of 20,506 votes, while Mo. Jaweed Mo. Isaque of the Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi trails behind.

The constituency, located in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, is a semi-urban seat that has historically been a Shiv Sena bastion. In the 2019 elections, Jaiswal Pradeep had won by a margin of 13,088 votes, securing 42.27% of the vote share.

Leads in Other Aurangabad Seats

Aurangabad West: Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Pandurang Shirsat leads by 9,237 votes, with Raju Ramrao Shinde of Shiv Sena (UBT) trailing.

Aurangabad East: AIMIM’s Imtiaz Jaleel Syed has established a significant lead of 40,927 votes, with BJP’s Atul Moreshwar Save in second place.

Gangapur: NCP’s (Sharad Pawar faction) Chavan Satish Bhanudasrao leads by 3,541 votes, ahead of BJP’s Bumb Prashant Bansilal.

Vaijapur: Shiv Sena’s Bornare Ramesh Nanasaheb leads by 25,790 votes, while UBT candidate Dr. Dinesh Pardeshi trails by the same margin.

Kannad: Shiv Sena’s Ranjanatai Harshvardhan Jadhav is leading by 12,642 votes, with Independent candidate Jadhav Harshvardhan Raibhan in second place.

Mahayuti Celebrates Early Gains

The BJP-led alliance’s solid performance has prompted celebrations across Maharashtra. Sweets were distributed at BJP’s Mumbai office, and firecrackers were set off by supporters of Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, who leads in Baramati with a margin of 15,382 votes. The alliance, comprising BJP, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction), is on track for a resounding victory.

As per the Election Commission, Mahayuti leads in 220 seats, surpassing the 145-seat majority mark. The BJP is leading with 118 seats, Shiv Sena with 56, and NCP with 37.

Shifting Political Landscape in Maharashtra

The 2024 results mark a stark departure from the 2019 elections when the BJP and Shiv Sena contested as allies but parted ways to form the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government with the NCP and Congress. The Shiv Sena’s subsequent split in 2022 resulted in Eknath Shinde’s faction aligning with the BJP.

Additionally, the NCP fractured in 2023, dividing into factions led by Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar. The reshuffling of alliances and internal divisions have significantly impacted the electoral dynamics, as seen in today’s results.

Aurangabad Central had 3,68,970 registered voters in the 2024 elections, with 1,88,306 males, 1,80,654 females, and 10 voters identifying as third gender. This diverse electorate has been crucial in shaping the results, particularly given the Marathwada region’s unique socio-political landscape.

Today’s results will determine how the BJP-led Mahayuti solidifies its position in Maharashtra, with key constituencies like Aurangabad serving as indicators of public sentiment. The outcomes also underscore the diminishing influence of the opposition, including the Congress, UBT, and Sharad Pawar-led NCP, in a state dominated by the BJP and its allies.
