Abuja, 18th Nov. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with the prestigious national award, “Grand Commander of the Order of Niger,” by Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a ceremony at the State House in Abuja on Nov 17, 2024. The award is a recognition of PM Modi’s statesmanship and his significant contributions to strengthening India-Nigeria relations.
The citation for the award highlighted PM Modi’s visionary leadership, which has positioned India as a global powerhouse, and his transformative governance fostering unity, peace, and shared prosperity.
Accepting the honor, PM Modi dedicated it to the people of India and the deep-rooted friendship between India and Nigeria. He remarked, “This recognition is a testament to the Strategic Partnership between our two nations and our shared commitment to the aspirations of the Global South.”
PM Modi is the first foreign leader to receive this award since 1969, marking a historic moment in the bilateral relations between India and Nigeria.
