Congress Slams PM Modi’s Foreign Tour, Questions His Refusal to Visit Manipur

New Delhi, 16th Nov.
The Congress party has taken a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his upcoming foreign tour, accusing him of using the trip for domestic political gains instead of addressing the crisis in Manipur.

PM Modi is set to travel to Brazil for the annual G20 summit, followed by visits to Nigeria and Guyana, starting Saturday.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh slammed the Prime Minister, calling his foreign trips a “periodic foreign jaunt,” and expressed frustration with his refusal to visit the violence-stricken state of Manipur.

“For the next three days, we will be spared the non-biological PM’s lie-surplus, dignity-deficit election campaign,” Ramesh said. “He is off to score domestic political points, rather than engage in any pretenses of statesmanship.”

Ramesh questioned why Modi continues to avoid Manipur, which has been torn apart by ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities since May 2023.

“The people of Manipur, who have suffered daily agony, deserve a visit from the Prime Minister,” he added.

The Congress has been consistently critical of the government’s response to the ongoing unrest in Manipur, where over 200 lives have been lost due to the ethnic clashes.

Opposition parties have called for stronger intervention to restore peace and address the humanitarian crisis in the state.
