Guwahati, 16th Nov. Three bodies, including that of a woman and two children, were recovered from the River Jiri in Manipur’s Jiribam district, said police. The bodies were brought to Assam’s Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH) on Friday night for postmortem.
The bodies are suspected to belong to three of the six individuals who went missing from Jiribam on Monday. However, officials have clarified that identification is yet to be confirmed, as they await the results of the autopsies. Photographs have been collected for the identification process.
Due to limited facilities in Jiribam, postmortem procedures for bodies found in the region are routinely carried out at SMCH.
In the wake of recent violence in Manipur’s Jiribam district, which borders Assam’s Cachar district, security measures have been heightened. Authorities have issued an alert in Cachar and initiated round-the-clock patrolling along the remote border areas to prevent further escalation.
