New Delhi, 16th Nov. AirAsia will begin operating its first-ever international flight from Port Blair in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Saturday. This marks a significant milestone as no international airlines currently operate from the Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair.
Kesavan Sivanandam, Chief Airport and Customer Experience Officer at AirAsia, expressed his enthusiasm for the new route, emphasizing that the airline aims to not only focus on commercial viability but also enhance connectivity. “Our motto is connecting people, and we thank the local administration for their support,” Sivanandam said.
Local tour operators are optimistic about the impact of this flight on the tourism sector in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Southeast Asia. Devender Yadav, Airport Director of Port Blair, also highlighted the importance of the new route in boosting the region’s tourism. “Tourism is the backbone of the economy here, and the collaborative efforts from all stakeholders will elevate civil aviation in the Union Territory,” he stated.
The Airports Authority of India has invested in strengthening infrastructure to improve both air navigation and ground services in the region, ensuring seamless connectivity for the new international flight.
