New Delhi, 5th Nov. President Droupadi Murmu met with a distinguished group of women achievers in the Indian aviation sector at Rashtrapati Bhavan on November 4, 2024. This interaction was held as part of the “The President with the People” initiative, aimed at fostering deeper connections and acknowledging the contributions of remarkable individuals.
During the session, President Murmu highlighted the pivotal roles women are playing in operational and technical capacities within civil aviation. She cited noteworthy statistics, mentioning that women make up 15 percent of Air Traffic Controllers, 11 percent of flight dispatchers, and 9 percent of aerospace engineers in India. Additionally, she noted that 18 percent of pilots who earned commercial licenses last year were women. The President commended these achievers for their innovative spirit and bravery in navigating unconventional career paths.
President Murmu praised the inclusive policies of the Indian government that have promoted women’s advancement in aviation, resulting in more women choosing the field as a career. She stressed the importance of equal opportunities alongside growing female representation, advocating for the sustained progress of women in aviation.
The President also acknowledged that, beyond education and training, family support is vital. Observing that many women face obstacles in achieving their ambitions due to insufficient familial backing, she encouraged the achievers to serve as mentors, inspiring other women to pursue their goals and establish fulfilling careers.
