CBIC Destroys Foreign Cigarettes, Drugs, and Gutka in Special Campaign

New Delhi, 26th Oct. In a decisive move against the illegal importation of contraband goods, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) executed a large-scale destruction of seized items as part of its #SpecialCampaign4.0 initiative.

On October 25, 2024, Delhi Customs (Preventive) and Customs (Airport and General) Commissionerates collaborated to destroy approximately 49 lakh foreign cigarettes, 73 kilograms of various narcotic drugs, gutka, paan masala, and e-cigarettes.

The estimated value of the destroyed goods is around ₹460 crores, all of which were seized under violations of the Customs Act, the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act.

The destruction took place at a waste management facility in Delhi, conducted safely and in a non-hazardous manner.

The event was overseen by Smt. Harbinder Kaur Prasad, Commissioner of Delhi Customs (Preventive Commissionerate), and Sh. Vishal Pal Singh, Commissioner of Customs (Airport and General) Commissionerate. This operation underscores the government’s commitment to combating illegal trade and protecting public health.
