Srinagar, 20th Oct. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, after participating in a half marathon on Sunday, expressed optimism about the future of the Kashmir Marathon, envisioning it as one of the premier athletic events worldwide.
Speaking to reporters after the event, Abdullah said, “I am thankful to the people of Srinagar for the way they came out to encourage the runners. I hope that the Kashmir Marathon becomes one of the top events in the world.”
The event marked the first international marathon held in the region, and Abdullah extended his gratitude to the organizers and other stakeholders for their efforts in putting up “such a good show.” He also congratulated the participants, acknowledging their determination.
Reflecting on his own participation, Abdullah noted, “I did not know I would be able to run 21 kilometers as the longest I have run earlier has been 12 or 13 kilometers. But I think running with other athletes pushed me to complete the run.”
The marathon attracted support from notable figures, including Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty, who was present at the flagging-off ceremony. Sharing his enthusiasm for the event, Shetty remarked, “This is going to be one of the most participated marathons in the world. Where else can you get to run 42 kilometers in a paradise!”
