New Delhi, 18th Oct. The Bengaluru police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Union Minister Pralhad Joshi’s brother, Gopal Joshi, and sister, Vijayalakshmi, following allegations of cheating made by Sunita Chavan, the wife of former JD(S) MLA Devavand Phool Singh Chavan.
The complaint, lodged at Basaweshwaranagar police station, accuses Gopal Joshi of promising Sunita a ticket to contest the upcoming May Lok Sabha elections during a meeting at his Hubballi residence in March. Sunita claims she subsequently delivered ₹25 lakh to Vijayalakshmi’s house in Bengaluru on Gopal’s instructions.
When Sunita did not receive a ticket, she alleged that Gopal assured her he would return the ₹25 lakh after securing a ₹200 crore project. He then requested an additional ₹1.75 crore, which she paid. However, after failing to return the money within the promised 20 days, Sunita approached Vijayalakshmi for assistance but received no response.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda confirmed to reporters that the investigation is ongoing, stating that it appears approximately ₹2 crore was given to the Joshi siblings in various installments. The police are now working to uncover the full extent of the alleged fraud.
