New Delhi, 17th Sept. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has raised concerns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding “extremely objectionable” and violent statements made by members of the ruling alliance against Rahul Gandhi.
Kharge, in a letter to the Prime Minister, urged him to discipline those responsible and take strict legal action to prevent the further degeneration of Indian politics.
Citing several instances, Kharge highlighted remarks made by BJP and allied leaders, including a minister from Uttar Pradesh and a Shiv Sena MLA. He referenced threats and violent language, such as the offer of a reward for cutting off Rahul Gandhi’s tongue and comparisons of Gandhi to a terrorist.
Kharge emphasized that such behavior was detrimental to democracy and called for immediate action to maintain decorum. He urged Modi to ensure discipline among his party leaders, underscoring the need to preserve Indian politics’ non-violent and respectful traditions.
Kharge warned that the Congress party’s workers and leaders were deeply agitated by the inflammatory statements and reminded the Prime Minister that similar hate-filled rhetoric had led to the deaths of figures like Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi.
