New Delhi, 6th Sept. The Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) announced on Friday that its selection committee for nominating candidates for the upcoming Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections will be formed on Saturday. The committee may consider nominating a female candidate for the post of president, according to the outgoing ABVP-led DUSU.
During a press conference held at the student union’s office in North Campus, DUSU president Tushar Dedha highlighted the achievements of the union under ABVP’s leadership. He stated that the panel would select candidates based on feedback received from students during pre-campaigning, and their names would be announced soon.
Dedha also emphasized the ABVP-led union’s efforts in advocating for students’ welfare. “We not only conveyed students’ needs and demands to the administration but also fought to achieve results. The foundation of a Student Centre at Delhi University is one of our major accomplishments,” Dedha said.
He further elaborated on initiatives taken during the union’s tenure, including organizing media internships and resolving 3,248 student issues. The “DUSU in Campus” campaign was also launched to connect with students across various colleges and address their concerns.
Dedha added that the ABVP-led DUSU played a key role in student movements, such as advocating for rent control for students living in private accommodations and opposing the Delhi government’s attempt to merge 12 DU colleges with Ambedkar University.
A unique opportunity called “10 Days 10 DUSU Presidents” was also introduced, allowing female students to serve as one-day DUSU presidents. Additionally, the outgoing union submitted a memorandum requesting the university administration to utilize funds from 2020-2023 to launch special bus services in both North and South Campuses.
The press conference was also addressed by DUSU Secretary Aparajita and ABVP Delhi State Secretary Harsh Attri. The DUSU elections are scheduled for September 27, with results to be announced the following day.
