New Delhi, 22nd July. Nominations and recommendations for the Padma Awards 2025, to be announced on Republic Day, have started from May 1, 2024, and will continue until September 15, 2024. Submissions are to be made online via the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal (https://awards.gov.in).
The Padma Awards, consisting of Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri, are among India’s highest civilian honors. Instituted in 1954, these awards recognize distinguished achievements across various fields, including Art, Literature, Education, Sports, Medicine, Social Work, Science and Engineering, Public Affairs, Civil Service, and Trade and Industry. The awards are open to all individuals regardless of race, occupation, position, or sex. However, government servants, excluding Doctors and Scientists, are ineligible.
The government aims to transform the Padma Awards into “People’s Padma” and encourages all citizens to nominate deserving individuals, including self-nominations. Efforts should focus on identifying exceptional talent from women, weaker sections of society, SCs & STs, divyang persons, and those providing selfless societal service.
Nominations should include all relevant details as specified in the format available on the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal, including an 800-word citation outlining the nominee’s distinguished achievements.
