Ranchi, 4th July.
In a major political development in Jharkhand, leaders of the INDIA alliance met Governor C P Radhakrishnan on Thursday. The delegation included JMM executive president Hemant Soren, state Congress president Rajesh Thakur, and RJD leader Satyanand Bhokta. Following the meeting, Governor Radhakrishnan invited Hemant Soren to form the government in Jharkhand, as confirmed by a Raj Bhavan official. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for today at 5 PM.

Supriyo Bhattacharya, General Secretary of JMM, stated, “The Governor has invited us to form the government and take the oath. We have decided that the CM along with this cabinet will take oath on July 7.”

This development follows the resignation of Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren on Wednesday. Hemant Soren, who is currently out on bail in a money laundering case, staked his claim to form the government shortly after being unanimously elected as the legislature party leader by leaders of the JMM-led alliance.

Champai Soren, who had taken oath as the 12th Chief Minister of Jharkhand on February 2 following Hemant Soren’s arrest, tendered his resignation to Governor CP Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhavan in the presence of the JMM executive president. This capped a day of intense political speculation.

Earlier, alliance leaders and MLAs met at Champai Soren’s residence and unanimously decided to elect Hemant Soren as the JMM legislature party leader, according to party sources. The meeting was also attended by Congress’s Jharkhand in-charge Ghulam Ahmad Mir, state president Rajesh Thakur, and Hemant Soren’s brother Basant and wife Kalpana.

Hemant Soren, son of JMM supremo Shibu Soren, was released from jail on June 28 after nearly five months, following a high court decision to grant him bail in a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam. He had resigned as Chief Minister shortly before his arrest on January 31 by the Enforcement Directorate.
