New Delhi, 27th June. A special CBI court in Patna has remanded two individuals accused of leaking the NEET-UG question paper to three-day CBI custody. The accused, identified as Mukesh Kumar and Chintu, allegedly played key roles in the illicit dissemination of the NEET-UG question paper conducted on May 5.
Investigations conducted by the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of the Bihar Police revealed that Chintu had received the question paper on his mobile phone. The CBI is now set to intensively interrogate both accused to ascertain how they obtained the question paper beforehand and the extent of their network involved in this malpractice.
Further complicating matters, the EOU probe uncovered familial ties between Chintu and Sanjeev Mukhiya, a primary suspect in the case. During their investigation, authorities seized significant evidence from Chintu, including 20 ATM cards, 21 blank cheques, and ₹50,000 in cash.
The NEET-UG 2024, which saw nearly 24 lakh students vying for undergraduate medical seats, was marred by allegations of question paper leaks and subsequent controversies over the early release of results on June 4.
These issues prompted widespread protests and legal actions, including petitions filed in various courts, notably the Supreme Court, which criticized the National Testing Agency’s handling of the examination.
