Bhartruhari Mahtab Sworn in as Pro-tem Speaker of Lok Sabha

President Droupadi Murmu on Monday administered the oath to Bharatiya Janata Party lawmaker Bhartruhari Mahtab as the pro-tem Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

In his new role, Mahtab will facilitate the oath-taking ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is the Leader of the Lok Sabha.

The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha commenced with a solemn “Observance of silence,” acknowledging the gravity of its inaugural sitting post the general elections.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) emerged with a strong mandate, securing 293 seats, while the INDIA bloc won 234, and the Congress party clinched 100 seats.

Looking ahead, the election for the Lok Sabha Speaker is scheduled for June 26, with President Droupadi Murmu set to address a joint sitting of both houses of Parliament on June 27.

This session marks the beginning of legislative duties for the newly elected representatives, shaping the course of the nation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the diverse voices of the Indian Parliament.
