Thiruvananthapuram, 23rd May. The Crime Branch wing of the Kerala police has taken crucial steps in the case involving Perumbavoor MLA and Congress leader Eldhose Kunnappilly, filing a charge sheet against him in connection with the alleged rape of a woman. This development comes after a thorough investigation into the accusations leveled against the two-time legislator.
In the charge sheet presented before the Neyyattinkara Additional Sessions Court, the Crime Branch has not only named Eldhose Kunnappilly but also implicated two of his associates as accused parties in the case.
The document alleges that Kunnappilly committed multiple acts of sexual assault against the woman at different locations and even went as far as attempting to take her life following a dispute in Kovalam. The charges against him include rape, attempted murder, and assault, stemming from a complaint filed by the victim who asserts that she has been subjected to repeated acts of violence since July 2022.
Moreover, the victim has claimed that Kunnappilly attempted to influence the case’s outcome by offering her a sum of ₹30 lakh as a settlement. These allegations have added another layer of complexity to the already serious charges leveled against the Congress MLA.
In response to the developments, Kunnappilly has vehemently denied the allegations, portraying them as politically motivated. He asserts that the charges have been orchestrated against him due to his status as an opposition MLA, casting doubt on the integrity of the legal proceedings.
