New Delhi, 21st May. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken disciplinary action against former Union Minister and Member of Parliament Jayant Sinha for purportedly failing to cast his vote during the recent elections. Sinha, the sitting MP from the high-profile Hazaribagh seat in Jharkhand, has been served a show-cause notice by the party for his alleged lack of participation in organizational work and election campaigning.
According to BJP state general secretary Aditya Sahu, Sinha’s absence from the electoral process has tarnished the party’s image. The notice requires Sinha to explain his position within two days. Despite being 61 years old, Sinha has yet to respond to the notice.
The controversy stems from Sinha’s earlier expression of his desire not to contest the Lok Sabha polls, citing a wish to focus on combating global climate change. This announcement coincided with the BJP’s declaration of Manish Jaiswal as its candidate from the Hazaribagh constituency. Sinha’s absence from electoral activities further compounded the situation.
The BJP’s decision not to field Sinha as a candidate in the recent polls aligns with its strategy of introducing fresh faces in certain constituencies. Similar decisions were made in other constituencies, including East Delhi, where incumbent MP Gautam Gambhir was replaced by Harsh Malhotra.
In the 2019 elections, Sinha secured victory in the Hazaribagh constituency by a significant margin of 4.79 lakh votes. However, his recent absence from voting has drawn criticism from the party leadership.
Meanwhile, polling in Jharkhand’s second round of Lok Sabha constituencies witnessed moderate turnout, with Hazaribagh recording the highest voter participation at 64.32 percent, followed by Chatra (62.96 percent) and Koderma (61.86 percent).
