New Delhi, 16th May. Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, inaugurated the IndiaSkills Competition 2024 on Wednesday, marking the commencement of the country’s largest skill competition aimed at showcasing the highest standards of skilling.
The inauguration ceremony, held at Yashobhoomi in Dwarka, New Delhi, witnessed the participation of over 900 students from more than 30 states and Union Territories, alongside over 400 industry experts.
Dignitaries including Nilambuj Sharan, Senior Economic Advisor, MSDE; Trishaljeet Sethi, DG Training, MSDE; Sonal Mishra, Joint Secretary, MSDE; Hena Usman, Joint Secretary, MSDE; and Ved Mani Tiwari, CEO, National Skill Development Corporation, graced the occasion.
Atul Kumar Tiwari emphasized that IndiaSkills 2024 is not merely a competition but a celebration of skill, innovation, and determination. He hailed it as a platform where dreams are realized and aspirations nurtured, showcasing the boundless potential of youth to shape the nation’s future. He expressed confidence in the participants’ capabilities, foreseeing their excellence in the upcoming WorldSkills 2024.
Over the next three days, participants will compete in 61 skills, ranging from traditional crafts to cutting-edge technologies, including Construction and Building Technology, Creative Arts and Fashion, Information and Communication Technology, Manufacturing and Engineering Technology, and Transportation and Logistics. The event will culminate on May 19th with a grand closing ceremony.
Ved Mani Tiwari underscored the role of IndiaSkills in nurturing aspirations and fostering creativity, positioning the country ahead of the curve and paving the way for a more inclusive society. He highlighted IndiaSkills’ pivotal role in building equal societies by creating opportunities for engagement among candidates, industry leaders, education partners, governments, and partner countries.
The competition, aligned with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), empowers participants to creditize their learning outcomes and pursue thriving careers in their chosen fields. This year, participants will have the opportunity to earn credits within the National Credit Framework, further enhancing the recognition of their skills.
About 2.5 lakh candidates registered for the competition on the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) Portal, with over 900 students shortlisted for the national competition. This rigorous selection process not only fosters a spirit of competition but also plays a pivotal role in building aspirations for skill development and vocational training among the youth, laying a solid foundation for a skilled workforce that drives national progress and innovation.
