New Delhi, 10th May.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a stern rebuttal to Congress Chief M Kharge’s allegations regarding discrepancies in voter turnout data, dismissing them as “baseless” and aimed at sowing confusion and misdirection during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

In an unprecedented response released on Friday, the ECI condemned Kharge’s decision to make internal political correspondence public and criticized his assertions, cautioning against the potential for creating chaos and doubts in the electoral process.

Kharge’s letter, which had accused the ECI of lowering its credibility by delaying the release of voter turnout percentages and insinuated tampering with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), drew strong criticism from the commission.

The ECI refuted Kharge’s claims, asserting that voter turnout data has always been promptly available through its app and highlighted the transparent process of preparing electoral rolls involving political parties.

Expressing displeasure with Kharge’s remarks, the ECI emphasized the need to uphold the sanctity of the electoral process and urged stakeholders to refrain from undermining the commission’s constitutional mandate.

Kharge’s letter, which mentioned the need to safeguard democracy and protect the independence of the ECI, questioned the motives behind the alleged delay in releasing voting percentages and raised concerns about potential manipulation of election results.
