Kolkata, 23rd April. Union Home Minister Amit Shah stirred controversy with his fiery rhetoric during a rally in Karandighi, Bengal’s Uttar Dinajpur district, rallying support for BJP candidate Kartik Paul ahead of the Raiganj seat elections.
In his address, Shah launched scathing attacks on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her party, accusing them of incompetence and corruption. He asserted that Banerjee lacks the courage to implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and assured Hindu refugees of citizenship under the new law.
Shah’s remarks took a confrontational turn as he vowed to tackle alleged Trinamool Congress “goons” if BJP secures victory, declaring, “Vote for BJP and Mamata Banerjee’s goondas will be hung upside down and straightened.”
The Home Minister capitalized on local controversies, highlighting the Sandeshkhali incident and the Calcutta High Court’s ruling on government school staff appointments to underscore alleged mismanagement and corruption under the Trinamool regime.
He accused Trinamool leaders of enriching themselves at the expense of public funds.
Shah also promised developmental initiatives, including the establishment of an AIIMS in north Bengal, should BJP come to power. He pledged to initiate work on the AIIMS project if BJP secures 30 seats.
In response to Shah’s remarks, Mamata Banerjee condemned the BJP’s alleged fear-mongering tactics and dismissed Shah’s claims of BJP’s imminent defeat. She reiterated her opposition to the implementation of CAA and NRC in West Bengal, accusing the BJP of attempting to malign her government ahead of the elections.
The escalating rhetoric between BJP and Trinamool Congress underscores the intense competition and political polarization characterizing West Bengal’s electoral landscape. As campaigning intensifies, both parties are leaving no stone unturned to sway voters in their favor.
