Thiruvananthapuram, 23rd April.
Actor Prakash Raj is confident that Congress candidate Shashi Tharoor, running for re-election in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala, will emerge victorious once more in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking to ANI, Raj expressed his support for Tharoor, stating, “I believe Shashi Tharoor has done a lot for the Thiruvananthapuram constituency. It’s going to be his term again. I am here to support him, not just because he is a close friend, but because he has given me hope, happiness, and a voice through his representation.”

Tharoor faces competition from Union Minister of State Rajeev Chandrashekhar and Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Panniyan Ravindran in a two-front contest.

Tharoor, who has held the seat since 2009, is facing a tough challenge with the BJP fielding a strong candidate against him. Chandrashekhar has previously served as the MoS for Electronics, Entrepreneurship, and Information Technology.

While the CPI-M is part of the INDIA bloc, there is no seat-sharing agreement with the Congress party in Kerala. The CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) has nominated CPI leader Pannyan Raveendran from the constituency, who previously won the seat in 2005.

All 20 Lok Sabha constituencies in Kerala will vote in a single phase on April 26, with counting scheduled for June 4.

In the 2019 elections, the Congress party won 19 out of the 20 seats, while the CPI-M secured only one seat. The BJP did not win any seats.

Although the BJP has never won a Lok Sabha seat in Kerala, the party did secure a victory in the Thiruvananthapuram district once, with O Rajagopal winning the Nemom assembly seat in 2016.
