Bengaluru, 22nd April. Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress leader Veerappa Moily criticized JD (S) Chief HD Deve Gowda and his son JDS-BJP candidate HD Kumaraswamy, stating that the Congress made an error by supporting the Gowda family duo.
Moily mentioned that the Congress party mistakenly backed undeserving individuals for the positions of Karnataka Chief Minister and Prime Minister of the country.
In response to HD Kumaraswamy’s claims of mistreatment by the Congress, Moily admitted, “I guess he is right. We supported Deve Gowda to become Prime Minister with the backing of 200 MPs. Yes, we erred in making Kumaraswamy the Chief Minister of Karnataka. We put the least deserving individuals in power as PM and CM.”
This criticism follows HD Kumaraswamy’s statements in a podcast with ANI, where he accused the Congress of mistreating the JD (S).
Discussing Deve Gowda’s political journey, HD Kumaraswamy stated, “In 2018, Deve Gowda joined forces with Congress. Throughout his 60-62 year career, he has always aligned with secular forces. Congress has destroyed several regional parties by using regional parties. Congress has humiliated Deve Gowda in various ways.”
When asked why his party aligned with the NDA, HD Kumaraswamy admitted to making wrong decisions by trusting his Congress colleagues. He expressed his disillusionment with the Congress and their treatment of him as Chief Minister.
Responding to Congress’s criticism of JD (S) joining hands with the NDA and suggesting they drop the word “secular” from their party’s name, HD Kumaraswamy questioned the meaning of secularism and accused Congress of exploiting caste composition for political gain.
Karnataka, with 28 Lok Sabha seats, will vote in two phases on April 26 and May 7. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won 25 seats, while Congress and JD(S) won one seat each.
The 2024 Lok Sabha Elections will take place in seven phases starting on April 19, with the vote count on June 4.
