Bengaluru, 18th April. A 23-year-old YouTuber was arrested for allegedly entering the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, recording a video, and later falsely claiming that he spent an entire day there, police reported today.
Vikas Gowda, a resident of Yelahanka in Bengaluru, entered the airport with a ticket for a Chennai-bound Air India flight on April 7 around 12 pm, according to authorities.
The police stated that he intentionally did not board the flight and instead wandered around the airport recording a video on his phone.
On April 12, he uploaded the video on his YouTube channel, which has nearly 1.13 lakh subscribers, falsely stating that he had spent a whole day at the airport and explored various areas of the airport premises while evading security.
He later deleted the video.
He passed through security at Terminal-2 of the Kempegowda International Airport and proceeded to the boarding lounge. However, instead of boarding the plane, he spent nearly six hours wandering around the airport premises, a senior police officer explained.
After filming the video, he left the airport, informing security personnel that he missed his flight. Since he had a valid ticket and boarding pass, security did not suspect him, the officer mentioned.
Initial investigations suggest he did it for publicity, and his claims in the video were exaggerated, the officer added.
The airport security personnel became aware of the incident on April 15, and based on a complaint from a Central Industrial Security Force official, a case was filed against Gowda under Sections 505 (Statements conducing to public mischief) and 448 (house trespass) of the Indian Penal Code. He was subsequently arrested and later released on bail, as per the police.
