New Delhi, 9th April. Robert Vadra, the husband of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, hinted once again that he is open to joining politics if the people want him to. He mentioned that he is receiving calls of support from party workers all over the country, including Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.
Vadra expressed that he is receiving support from party workers nationwide to actively participate in politics, not just from Amethi. He acknowledged that the focus on Amethi is higher due to his campaigning efforts there since 1999. However, he mentioned that his posters are now appearing in other places as well, as people recognize and appreciate the hard work he has put in so far, in an exclusive interview with IANS.
Amethi was a stronghold of the Gandhi family for a long time until Smriti Irani won the seat in 2019. Vadra believes that the people of Amethi should correct the mistake they made by electing Smriti Irani five years ago.
He stated that the people of Amethi feel that if he contests from there, they will have the opportunity to rectify their past error of electing Smriti Irani. Vadra expressed confidence that they would ensure his victory by a significant margin if he decides to run.
However, he clarified that he would not run just to challenge someone, even though Smriti Irani had made baseless allegations against him in the past.
The 55-year-old businessman from Moradabad also mentioned that he would fully support Rahul Gandhi if he chooses to contest elections from Amethi.
Vadra stated, “If Rahul decides to run from Amethi after Wayanad, I will support him wholeheartedly and join him during his campaigns. I believe that I don’t necessarily have to be actively involved in politics to engage with the people. They know they can always approach me if Rahul or Priyanka are unavailable.”
