MK Stalin Slams BJP Amid Katchatheevu Island Dispute

Chennai, 1st April.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s criticism of the ruling DMK party regarding the Katchatheevu issue.

He questioned the sudden interest shown by the BJP in fishermen just before the elections and raised concerns about the 37,000 crore flood relief package requested by the state.

The Katchatheevu islet was given to Sri Lanka by India through an agreement in 1974.

In a post on X, Stalin called the Katchatheevu issue a diversionary tactic used by the PM and posed three questions to the government. He asked why only 29 paise out of every Re 1 paid by Tamil Nadu as tax is returned, why the state has not received any flood relief despite facing two natural disasters, and if any special schemes were implemented for Tamil Nadu during the BJP’s 10-year rule.

Stalin urged the Prime Minister to address these questions instead of diverting attention, using the hashtag in Tamil “bathil sollunga Modi” to seek answers.

Earlier, the Prime Minister accused the DMK of neglecting the state’s interests in the Katchatheevu issue. He referred to a news report revealing that the late Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had approved the agreement despite the DMK’s public opposition to it.
