US Ambassador Eric Garcetti Recounts Memorable Encounter with Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan

New Delhi, 1st April. US Ambassador Eric Garcetti shared his experience of meeting Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan during his early days in India. He mentioned that everyone in his office was thrilled and surprised when they found out about the meeting.

Garcetti admitted that he was unaware of the immense love and admiration for Shah Rukh Khan in the country until his colleagues in the office reacted with excitement upon learning about the encounter.

During the meeting, they discussed cricket as Shah Rukh Khan is a part-owner of a cricket team in Los Angeles. Garcetti mentioned that the reaction from his office was overwhelming, highlighting the widespread adoration for the actor across India.

Mr. Garcetti emphasized that one of the enjoyable aspects of his job is connecting with people, not just focusing on policies. He expressed his interest in strengthening the people-to-people relationship between India and the US.

He also mentioned his hope to facilitate more interactions between Indian and American citizens, emphasizing the strong bond between the two countries.

Notably, Garcetti visited Shah Rukh Khan at his residence in Mumbai last year, where they discussed Bollywood and its global cultural impact.

Garcetti expressed his gratitude to US President Joe Biden for appointing him as the US Ambassador to India. He was sworn in by US Vice President Kamala Harris in March 2023.
