BJP’s Revenue Soars on Donations, While Congress Suffers Decline

In Bharat, the celebration of democracy is still ongoing. On June 4, roughly seventy days after the festival began; the public will reward those who took part by revealing the results of the general elections, marking the festival’s conclusion. The world’s largest festival of democracy is the moniker given to Bharat’s general elections. In the meantime, the chatter about non-electoral bond donations to political parties does not stop. Which political party has the most wealth and which has the least is the question that needs to be answered.

All political parties combined earned Rs 3,077 crore during the fiscal year 2022–2023, according to a report published on February 29 by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). The highest revenue went to BJP. In other words, the BJP had about Rs 2,361 crore. As per the data provided by political parties to the Election Commission, ADR has revealed that Congress’s total income for the fiscal year 2022–2023 was Rs 452.375 crore. In terms of all political parties’ combined income, it comes in second. In reports to the Election Commission, the Bahujan Samaj Party, Aam Aadmi Party, National People’s Party, and Marxist Communist Party—along with the BJP and Congress—have also declared their income.

This report indicates that during the fiscal year 2022–2023, BJP’s income increased. This represents a 23.15% increase over the total revenue for the 2021–2022 fiscal years. In 2022–2023 the total income of the BJP was Rs 2,360.844 crore. It had Rs 1917.12 crore earlier in the same time frame. The BJP had expended roughly Rs 1,361.84 crore, or 57.68% of the total revenue, in 2022–2023. Congress spent a total of Rs 467.135 crore in 2022–2023—a 3.26% increase over its total income of Rs 453.375 crore. Compared to the fiscal year 2021–2022, the income of Congress fell by 16.42% in 2022–2023.

During this time, the National People’s Party (NPP) of the North-East, which is recognized as a national political party, saw a 1502.12% rise in its revenue. In the fiscal year 2022–2023 there was a total income of Rs 77.562 crore. Previously, in 2021–2022, this sum was Rs 4.87 crore. The Aam Aadmi Party, led by Arvind Kejriwal, was given Rs 85.17 crore. At Rs 102.051 crore, its expenses exceeded its income by 19.82%. The Marxist Communist Party earned Rs 141.661 crore in revenue, of which Rs 106.067 crore, or 74.87 %, was spent.

As per the declaration made by a different Rashtriya Bahujan Samaj Party in the nation, in 2022–2023 no sum exceeding Rs 20,000 was obtained. According to the report, the Bahujan Samaj Party’s revenue decreased by 33.14 % to Rs 14.508 crore in 2022–2023 compared to 2021–2022. It should be noted that political parties are required to reveal any donations they receive of Rs 20,000 or more.
