Delhi CM Kejriwal Accuses Police Officer of Misbehavior During Court Appearance

New Delhi, 23rd March.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal claims that a Delhi police officer who previously manhandled former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia at a court in the city has now misbehaved with him.

Kejriwal made this statement in an application filed in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court, where he requested the removal of the officer from his security detail.

In the application, Kejriwal, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a liquor policy case, stated that Assistant Commissioner of Police AK Singh had misbehaved with him while he was being taken to court for a hearing related to the remand application filed by the agency on Friday. The specific details of the alleged misbehavior are not yet known.

Singh is the same officer who was accused of grabbing Sisodia by the neck at the same court last year when reporters were asking him questions. The incident was captured on video, and Sisodia had filed a complaint. The Delhi Police denied any wrongdoing, stating that the action was necessary for security reasons and that it was illegal for any accused person to speak to the media.

The police also requested permission from the court to have Sisodia appear via video-conferencing, citing the chaos caused by AAP supporters and journalists gathering in the court corridors when he was brought in physically.

Sisodia was arrested in February last year in the Delhi liquor policy case, while Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on Thursday night, becoming the first sitting chief minister to face such action. Kejriwal was brought before the Rouse Avenue court, which granted the agency custody of him for seven days.

The ED, investigating the money laundering aspect of the case, had requested Kejriwal’s custody for 10 days to confront him with other suspects. The agency alleged that the chief minister and AAP had received kickbacks in exchange for favors, with Kejriwal being portrayed as the mastermind and a key conspirator in the alleged scam.

According to the ED, the total proceeds of the crime amount to 600 crore rupees. The agency claimed that the Delhi liquor policy allowed for a profit margin of 12% for wholesalers and nearly 185% for retailers. Of the 12% margin, six was allegedly taken as kickbacks for AAP leaders from wholesalers, and a lobby known as the South Group reportedly provided 100 crore rupees in advance to another accused, Vijay Nair, who had ties to the ruling party in Delhi.
