Patna, 18th March.
Rohini Acharya, daughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, is set to make her foray into politics by contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Bihar’s Saran constituency, as per indications from sources close to the Yadav family within the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

If this happens, the 44-year-old would become the fourth child of Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi to enter the political arena. Her brother Tejashwi Yadav currently serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly and chairs the RJD. Additionally, her siblings Tej Pratap Yadav and Misha Bharti are members of the Bihar Assembly and Rajya Sabha, respectively.

Speculation surrounding Rohini Acharya’s political debut gained traction following a social media post by Sunil Kumar Singh, a member of the Bihar legislative council known for his proximity to the Yadav family. Singh’s Facebook post endorsed Acharya as a potential RJD candidate for the Saran Lok Sabha seat, a sentiment echoed by party members in the Saran area.

Acharya’s presence at an RJD rally in Patna’s Gandhi Maidan earlier this month further fueled anticipation of her entry into active politics.

The Saran Lok Sabha constituency, currently held by BJP’s Rajiv Pratap Rudy, has previously been represented by Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Dr. Rohini Acharya, a medical professional with an MBBS degree, is married to Samresh Singh, a software engineer. The couple has resided in Singapore and the US over the past two decades and has two sons.

Notably, Acharya gained widespread recognition in 2022 when she selflessly donated one of her kidneys to her ailing father, earning praise from various quarters, including political rivals such as BJP’s Giriraj Singh and Dr. Nishikant Dubey.

While there were previous speculations about Acharya’s political aspirations, particularly in the context of the 2017 Assembly polls, her formal entry into politics did not materialize at the time. Despite her relatively low-key political involvement, Acharya has occasionally made headlines for her remarks on significant political developments, such as Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s realignment with the NDA, which sparked controversy.
