New Delhi, 6th Nov. A parliamentary committee on home affairs met on Monday and approved three reports on bills that aim to replace the current criminal laws. However, some opposition members submitted dissent notes, sources said.
The committee, chaired by BJP member Brij Lal, had requested additional time to review the draft reports, which were circulated at the end of last month.
Parliamentary sources said some opposition members had already submitted their dissent notes to the reports on the three bills to replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC), The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872 with Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, respectively.
It is expected that more opposition members will submit dissent notes in the next two days.
On October 27, the standing committee on Home was unable to adopt the three draft reports due to opposition members requesting more time to review them.
